In October 2011 Graeme Lord opened the doors to Fairport Yacht Support.
Graeme was born and educated in Zimbabwe where he completed a four-year apprenticeship in Diesel and Petrol Mechanics with Ford UK, and was eventually transferred to Ford South Africa. After serving with the National Sea Rescue Institution of South Africa on the Cape Coast, he worked for Mariner Outboards South Africa for two years before traveling throughout Africa, England, Europe and Australia.
Graeme’s first position on board a yacht was 2nd Engineer. He quickly worked his way up to Chief Engineer on large motor yachts over the next seven years. After extensive cruising he has first-hand knowledge of remote ports of call and is seasoned in all aspects of yachting. Graeme moved ashore in Fort Lauderdale after the birth of his first son in 2000.
Graeme’s technical background combined with a respected reputation as a marine engineer prompted his career into Yacht Management. With over 18 years of experience in the marine industry he is considered a leader in the field of yachting. He is Chairman of the Cayman Islands Ship-owners Advisory Council â€“ Yacht Committee, serves on various committees for the Marine Industry of South Florida, and is a member of the U.S. Super Yacht Association. He has also been a speaker at Superyacht Forum and conferences around the globe.
Graeme has two sons, Liam and Logan. During leisure time Graeme is an avid swimmer with the Fort Lauderdale Masters Team. He takes a leadership role with his two boys at the local Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs and enjoys boating and camping with his family. His hobby is fish keeping and he has a variety of marine and fresh water aquariums along with a koi pond.
